When the MCA Denver surveyed teens about what they think of museums, most responded that the museum is a very formal environment. People who go to the museum are "visitors" and are expected not to touch anything, to keep their voices down, and to walk slowly. They proposed that a lounge on the top floor should be casual—a place without decorum—to reflect the inventive and often subversive nature of contemporary art practices. They built models of a variety of furniture pieces. Since they had not built scale models before, theirs were rough. Full scale pieces will be made with the same unpolished craft to help establish an informal sensibility for the lounge.
